Radio Interview with Sunny 92.3: Lily’s Second Chance

Sam DeRogge joining us today. He is with a wonderful organization in our community called Lily's Second Chance. We love highlighting area organizations that takes care of our pets. It's Wet Nose Wednesday. Sam, welcome to the show. Hi, thanks for having me on. Yeah, so tell me about your organization. So it all started with my dog Lily. I was at a shelter looking at a different dog actually and then we saw her and I thought she was cute and she was older and they kind of told me a little bit of a sob story about, you know, she'd been in the shelter for a whole year and, you know, she was a sweet dog and they all loved her to death there and they just needed, you know, somebody to give her a home. So I, you know, decided to do that. And I mean, she was the greatest dog in the world, man. I mean, she was already trained, potty trained, great on a leash, you know, great with people, great with kids. She wasn't great with other dogs. That was the only issue with her, but that can be sometimes a problem with some of the older ones. But, you know, when she passed about two weeks ago, I just wanted to get everybody else to have the same experience that I had and just because it's hard to get this message out that, you know, the senior dogs, they're growing old in these shelters and they're already old. So they don't have the time that these puppies have for somebody to find them, for the right person to find them. It's really a rush, you know, and a lot of them are put at risk because they can't handle the stress of the shelter and all the noise and everything. So a lot of them get put down. I'm working on building an actually a fallen angels page that I'm going to work directly with the shelters and what's emitted onto the databases that I use for the website. And I'm going to start posting fallen angels, which are going to be the ones that don't make it out of the shelter. You know, every week we always highlight a senior dog or a senior cat. And, you know, unfortunately, a lot of those, they're either stuck in a foster family, which we love our foster families, or they're just there at the shelter. I love that you're doing this, Sam. How can we come alongside you as a community to help you with this project? So there's definitely a couple of things you can do. Visit the website, look at the dogs, you know, and share. Everything's built already to go. All you have to do is hit a share button and it'll share it anywhere you want it to go, the dog itself. You can leave memorials about dogs that you've adopted and have passed away. You can also leave happy endings, which is like, say you find a dog on here and adopt it. You can take pictures and upload that and tell the story of your adoption story and put it there. We have a Facebook page for Lily's Second Chance. It would be wonderful if everybody could follow it. We post at-risk dogs first every day, and then if we run out of at-risk dogs, then we start posting the ones that are not at risk. We also post several stories. We have a stories page that is all about senior dogs. And there's no ads anywhere on the webpage. So my goal is to keep the people looking at the dogs. You know what I mean?
